Workout: 12 or 14 Long Easy run

Weather: Fall weather!!

Tim and I went over to Craig and Ginger's house on Friday night. We played a couple of games then decided we wanted to grab a couple of drinks at Doc's on Brodie. A couple of rounds later around midnight we headed home. I got my wake-up call around 4:45am and just jumped out of bed and got dressed. I figured if I thought about it too much I would have talked myself out of the run since I only got 4 hours sleep. I headed over to Rogue and meet up with my usually group. At the split-off point I decided that it would be in my best interest to just do 12 miles instead of 14. So Ashile and I split from the rest of the group. She mentioned after a mile or so she was going to pick up the pace to around 9:15/mile which is too fast for me so I just made sure I kept her in sight. And I did. I was only about a 1 or 2 minutes behind her the whole time. I felt pretty good the whole time. I did alittle stretching when finished then headed home for a nice long family (Tim, Ellie, Cole and me) nap. I love nap time on weekends!!

Overall pace 9:35/mile

Does something smell around here????

Oh wait that is ME!! I admit it.... I am a spoiled brat. Check out this purse I got for Tim's 30th Birthday from my mom. Yep, Tim's birthday. When we were at dinner, my mom and dad gave Tim his present and I got this. I even got the matching wallet!! I was soo excited I moved in right away. I didn't waste anytime. Thanks again mom, I love ya!!

Quality time with my girls!!

I am soooo excited. I just downloaded this movie onto my iphone and nano. It took 10 hours to download but it was well worth the wait!! I can't wait to start watching it. Now I just need to find some down time to actually watch it. I also discovered that I have headphones in my car that work with my iphone. Yay!! I thought I was going to have to purchase some new ones or at least an adaptor to use my regular ones. I just need a bottle of wine and I am good to go!!

I had a great time at Happy Hour last night with Tim's co-workers. I probably drank more than I should have, but I was able to make it to the run this morning. I was feeling alittle tired because I didn't really eat dinner last night and I need to catch up on some sleep. I ran the warm-up with Andi and Brian easily. Then after a quick waterstop we were off. Brian and I stuck together while Andi took off. I forgot my garmin but had my watch. But silly me didn't start my watch to begin with. Alot of good that does. Oh well. But looking at the time that we started and the time we finished, Brian and I kicked some butt. Yay, glad that is over. Now I get to go home after work and watch Grey's 2-hour special!!

I was soo tired this morning that I didn’t even wake up to do my run. I then figured I would get it done in the evening but Tim and his co-workers wanted to go to Happy Hour and I got invited. So I texted Foho to see if she wanted to meet me at lunch but she had already ran. Looks like I am on my own. I decided to take an early lunch and git-r-done. I had a good run but I must start using my inhaler again. At one point in time I thought I was going to pass-out from not being able to breathe.

Overall pace – 9:21/mile

September 23, 2008 - Unexpected but needed day of rest

I ended up having to work late on Tuesday. I thought maybe I could make the class late, but if I don't leave right around 5ish I get stuck in traffic which really sucks. I then figured I could make the south group workout which starts around 6:30, but ended up staying at the office till 7:15. I didn't make that one either so instead I meet Tim and Cole at the vet's office. I was planning on running when I got home, but I was just too tired. I ended up crashing around 9:30ish.

Sabrina and I talked on Friday and decided we were going to do 10 miles on Sunday. I told her that I was only scheduled to do 4 but if she had a water-stop set up for us and went slow than I agreed. Fast forward to Sunday.... after my 21 miler on Saturday and her 100+ mile bike ride we agreed that just weren't feeling it. So we decided to just run 4 miles instead. When I got to her house she was looking for her passport because she was heading to Canada in the morning, but it was no where to be found. Sabrina was totally freaking out. I had then remembered that I was supposed to DVR the Dallas Cowboy game for Tim so I rushed home to set it up while she was still looking for it. On my way home I had decided that if she didn't find it when I got back then we weren't going to run, we would just search her house until she found it. Luckily her lovely hubby found it! Yay Sam!! So we quickly put our shoes on were off. We chatted the whole way and giggled, but once we hit Convict Hill it was dead silent. We were both hurting. But after we made it to Escarpment we (okay, I) was all good. Then Sabrina started complaining that I was pushing her too hard and she couldn't breathe. Whatever, if she is still talking while running she is fine. I just told her to suck it up and keep up and she did. She fell back a couple of times, but I yelled at her and she picked up the speed again to keep up. She was ready to stop at her street, but I said nope we are stopping at your driveway (only a few houses down). She complained and complained but I knew she was fine. We finished up nice and strong.

All week I was alittle worried and nervous about this workout. My left quad has been acting up on me as well as my planter fasciitis. I have been wearing my night splint but I don't think it is enough. I am thinking I will have to go get a shot sometime soon. Anyway, I went over to Ginger and Craig's house Friday night to have dinner with them. Then excused myself at 8:00 to make sure I was in bed around 9pm for my 4am wake-up call. I got up with no problem and headed out the door to Rogue (our finish point). I then hitched a ride up to Runtex (starting point). We got our instructions and were off to Anderson Track. We got to the track and got set up start our 1 mile all out. Before I could really think about it we were off. I tried to keep up a pretty good pace and I am happy with my results. But after looking back, I think I could have pushed harder. I then got some water and headed out to finish the rest of our 18 mile run. I was feeling pretty good, yeah legs were alittle tight but not too bad. But then I started having stomach issues. The all out mile made my stomach go nuts. I had to make a pit-stop and lost my regular running group. :( I finished my taking care of business and was off again. Just as I was getting back on course I saw Foho and Bfdee. I was thinking to myself "Awesome, I have someone to run with!" But Foho wouldn't let me slow down and run with them. She kept saying "Go faster...You are too fast!" So I did what was told. I kept up with Katie and Brenda. They were alittle in front of me, but I always caught up to them at the waterstops. I was feeling pretty good until mile 17. Then I was just ready to be done. Then once I hit downtown I swear I hit every light and had to stop. By that time traffic was out in full force and my legs were to tired to sprint across. So I just waited. Finally made it back to the store feeling pretty good, but tired. I then got ART and was ready for some food and a nap. Overall good run. I didn't have my watch, but I did keep up with Katie and Brenda so I am happy with that.

I got to Northwest Park on time and we our directions and were off. We hit our paces pretty well (according Ashlie). It did start to rain at about mile 2.5 or so. I was alittle worried that it was going to rain harder (no hat) but luckly it never did. I had to stop after the 1st loop (6 miles) to get Tim to the airport. Happy 30th Birthday Tim!!

Tim has officially become a Villegas!! He now follows one of the most important traditions of the Villegas family…. celebrating your birthday ALL MONTH!! Here is a recap of the weekend events…

Friday – Happy Hour with Sabrina, Sam, Priscilla, Amber and me at Waterloo Ice House then Sabrina’s house.

Saturday – Dinner at Houston’s with Uncle David, Aunt Diana, Mom, Dad, and I. After diner headed over to Doc’s to meet up with Aunt Katy, Uncle Harris, Aunt Cindy, Aunt Julie, Uncle Dan, Nicole, Lance and all the kiddos. Then Ginger and Craig came over to the house to have a couple of drinks.

Sunday – Breakfast with Aunt Diana, Uncle David, Dad, Mom, Little Hector, Maria, Andrea, and me. We then headed home to have a party for Tim at the house. Aunt Diana and Maria brought over some food and we had some Bar-B-Que. I also went to purchase a cake and balloons. Tim brought a TV outside to watch some NFL football while the girls stayed inside to cook and relax.

Monday - Monday Night Football!! We went to Doc’s to watch the Cowboys kick some butt. It was such a great game. Ginger and Craig came to meet us there. Uncle Harris and Louis came too, but missed each other. They were sitting inside and we were sitting outside. Bummer.

Tuesday – Tim celebrated at work with his favorite, a cookie cake and his co-workers decorated his office. I gave him his gifts when I got home. I got him Madden 2009 PlayStation game, a controller charger, and 2 shirts. Tim decided he couldn't wait to play with his new toys so he picked up some food and we just stayed home so he could play Madden 2009.

And there is STILL MORE TO COME!! He hasn’t even celebrated with his family yet. Tim is going to North Carolina this weekend. He is going for a friend’s bachelor party but I bet they will take a couple of shots for his birthday too. Then the following weekend we are headed to Boerne where his parents will throw him a party and then play golf with his dad on Sunday.

Since it is Tim's birthday I was going to have to the workout in the morning. I emailed Team Rogue to see if anyone else was doing the workout in the morning, but no takers so I just decided to do the workout in my neighborhood instead of driving up north. I found some pretty good hills and mapped out a route. When I stepped out the door in the morning, I thought I was going to need a jacket. It was pretty cool but I figured I would warm-up and I did. I had an awesome run and did great on the hills!! I was really proud of myself. I left my watch at home so I don't know my splits. But looking at my time, I did pretty good. Go me!!

Happy Birthday Uncle Richard!!

Today would have been Uncle Richard’s 47th birthday. Uncle Richard passed away October 30,2007 after a long hard battle with cancer. He was a kind loving person with a big heart who gave of himself. His joy, affection, and generosity drew many friends and co-workers to him and those countless friends were always there for him. Uncle Richard made it a priority to stay in touch with his friends and family throughout every period of their life. Family was always the number one on his priority list. If ever you needed help with something, Uncle Richard would either do it himself or know someone that could help you. He would do anything and everything for any of his family members. Uncle Richard was my sponsor when I got confirmed in middle school. I remember he would pick me up for class every week and make sure we brought a pen and paper to class to take notes but instead Uncle Richard and I would play Tic-Tac-Toe. I will always cherish the cross he gave me the day I had my confirmation. Uncle Richard will truly be missed and will forever be in my heart.

Here is a picture of all of the Villegas brothers from left to right - Uncle Bert, Uncle David, Dad, Uncle Dan, Uncle Hector, and Uncle Richard.

P.S. Happy Birthday Uncle Dan!!

I tried to go for a long easy run, but my heel and quad were just bothering me. I thought they would loosen up but they never did. So I just decided to cut the run short and call it a day. I didn't get much running in this weekend, but I spent most of my weekend with family instead. :) This weekend was all about family. There are more important things in life than running. Tim and I had a great weekend spending time with all of our loved ones.

Friends, Family and Hurricane Ike

The weekend started off pretty good. I meet Sabrina, Amber, Pricilla, Tim and Sam for happy hour at Waterloo Ice House. We expected hurricane Ike to hit while we were there but it never did. After we headed over to Sabrina’s house to continue the party. We had a great time and I was off to bed around 11ish. Not too late.

I had intended to make the long run, but my heel and my left quad have been bothering me more than usual. I have been rolling like crazy, but it doesn’t feel that much better. I am going to get it checked out next Friday at the Team Rogue clinic. I thought it would be better if I got my mileage in on a flatter course, so I just slept in some. Saturday morning, I met Sabrina and Amber at Lifetime Fitness for a cardio, dance, salsa, kickboxing, and weight-lifting class. After about an hour of that we headed over to a spin class then lunch. I quickly went home and changed and headed over to Dan’s and Brandi’s to celebrate their son’s baptism. All of my Houston family (Uncle Hector, Aunt Katy, Nikki, Little Hector, and not to mention all of their spouses and kids) were also there. It was so great to see everyone. After the celebration, it was time to get ready for dinner to start celebrating Tim’s birthday. We headed over to Houston’s restaurant for dinner. On the way to dinner we received a phone call that everyone was meeting at Doc’s for dinner. So after dinner, Tim and I headed over to Doc’s to see the family. We then rushed home because Ginger and Craig were coming over. We watched some Saturday night live and headed to bed around midnight.

On Sunday, Tim and I meet up with Uncle David, Aunt Diana, Little Hector, Maria, Mom and Dad for breakfast. Little Hector and Maria mentioned that they had a cooler full of meat that they needed to cook, so Tim and I asked them if they wanted to come over to cook it later. We agreed that they would come over around 2pm and sorted out the details. I then took Mom to Target where we did some damage and headed home. Around 2pm everyone showed up to cook and celebrate Tim’s birthday. I went to HEB and bought a cake. I swear this is the best cake I have had in awhile. We had lots of food, beer, wine and family. Life couldn't’t get any better. The boys were outside watching football and the girls were inside cooking and hanging out.
The weekend was full of much needed family time and celebrating Tim’s Birthday. I didn’t get much running done, but there are more important things in life.

Hurricane Ike

Tim and I prepared for Ike by going to the grocery store on Wednesday night and loading up on water, ice, propane, food and most important beer/wine. :) We also brought in all of the patio furniture and grill into the garage. I had the weekend all planned out. Friday, I am supposed to close my office early to allow my employees to make it home safely. Then meet Sabrina, Sam, Amber, and my hubby for Happy Hour at Waterloo Ice House, which is not even 2 miles down the street from all of us. That way if things got really bad we could all be home in less than 5 minutes. On Saturday, I was supposed to sleep in and miss our 18 mile Mt. Bonnell run in the morning. As for the rest of the weekend, just relax, rest and start celebrating Tim's 30th birthday. I do have some relatives in town from Houston so I figured there would be a family party/dinner sometime over the weekend too. We would invite Sabrina and Sam over to the house to help drink all of the beer/wine we bought on Wednesday and left overs from the housewarming party since they only live 3 streets down from us. Doesn't that sound like a great weekend?? Not anymore, Ike has decided to turn east instead. There goes my plans. Bummer :(

Happy Birthday Uncle Ed!!

Today would have been Uncle Ed's 59th birthday. He passed away unexpectedly on July 27th, 2008. In memory of him my cousin, Vanessa had a memorial church service for him this morning. He will always be remembered for being the caring, compassionate and loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend that he was. He had such a zest for life and was such an inspiration to his many friends and family. Uncle Ed had a deep devotion and enduring love for his wife and daughters. I will all miss Uncle Ed's sense of humor. He was always the life of the family parties/dinners. They just won't be the same without him.

I was supposed to get a 7 mile tempo run in this morning or sometime today, but I would rather spend some quality time with my family. I have several relatives coming in from Houston today and my parents need some help preparing for Ike.

I was able to sleep in 6:00am!! Ha! Ha!! You know it is sad when your own grandmother (Nana) thinks it is crazy that sleeping in means 6:00am. She thinks I am crazy and was making fun of me last night. I could have done this workout tonight, but just decided to get it over with that way I wouldn't have to worry about it the rest of the day. My left quad is feeling pretty tight after Saturday's run. Not sure what it going on but it finally was able to loosen up after a mile in, but then tightened up again. So to prevent it from getting worse I just sat down on the sidewalk at mile 2 and stretched it really good. Felt much better. The rest of the way I slowed it down and tried to focus on my form. I stretched it alot more when I got home and it feels much better.

I learned a lesson today... never give blood on the same day as a quality workout. My doctor wanted to run some tests today so I went ahead and just decided to get it done right after I saw her. I was feeling pretty good at the beginning but once those hills started coming, I got my tired pretty quickly. I was happy to keep up with the faster group again. So I just decided not to kill myself and cut the workout short. I went straight home and had a huge glass of tea and a cookie and felt much much better.

Here we come....

It's official, Tim and I are registered for the 1/2 marathon in San Antonio on November 16,2008. I am not sure if this is a good idea or bad one. A couple of years ago my hubby just woke up one day and decided to run a the River City 10 mile race with NO training. He made it with a great time and I was so proud of him!! But the following days were pretty bad. He could barely walk or get around. So this year, I am going to try to get him to run a couple of long runs with Rogue to let him know what it feels like to run 13.1 miles. If he just does it a couple of times he will be ready to go.
Go Team Woodruff!!!

I started off with my usually running group. It felt great to be able to keep up with them for awhile. Then the hills came. I did okay on them, not great. I have trouble recovering from them once I get up them, but overall very happy. I kept up a good pace till the end. I didn't want to push myself too much because my foot was starting to get sore towards the end so I slowed down some. I just stayed nice and relaxed and stretched at every water stop. I have been making sure I get about 8 hours sleep every night which seems to help alot.

Time to make a change....

I have decided to switch over to blogspot from livejournal. After reading over several other people blogs this one seems soo much easier to use, especially for the accountant by day. Any tips for me on using this one? I am still learning but pretty much have the hang of it.

I went to bed last night at 9:00pm!! I was so excited to be in bed that early. The only problem was is that my husband didn't get home until 10:15ish. I ended up waking up and having a hard time trying to fall asleep with the noise he was making (TV, yelling at the dogs for one reason or another, and getting ready for bed). I have decided that I am going to have to start sleeping in a separate room on Wednesday nights to be able to get a good nights sleep for our Thursdays early morning runs. I woke up at 4:45am with no problem. I quickly got dressed and headed out the door. I made my own little water-stop down the street and was on my way. Since this was a progressive run, I decided that I would start off at 10:30/mile and work my down to my MGP by taking off 15 sec each mile. Was feeling pretty good, expect my Garmin was telling me my pace was everywhere from 12:00/miles to 8:00/mile. I didn't think anything of it so I just kept running. Well when I got back to my waterstop I looked down and say my mileage was only 4.75 instead of 5. My Garmin lost me somewhere because I mapped it out last night and this morning using usatf.org and it is still 5 miles. That means my 1st 5 miles was too fast. I just decided to run the next 5 miles. I ended up having to walk at about mile 8 because my stomach was uneasy. It started to settle after alittle while so I picked up the pace again. I did run some extra to make sure I got 10 miles and ended up running too much. I also kept pressing the stop/start button instead of lap button so my time isn't accurate. Other than that I had a great run!!

We are short staffed at work this week, so I wasn't able to leave the office on time and then I still had to drop off the mail. I decided just to go home and do the workout around my hood. As I was stuck in traffic I thought it seemed extra hot outside, so I pulled out my trusty iphone and looked up the temp and it was 102 DEGREES!! You have got to be kidding. As soon I got home I quickly changed and headed out the door without allowing myself to talk myself out of the workout. How in the heck am I supposed to run hills in this weather? Since I wasn't looking forward to this workout I decided to lengthen the hill workout to 2.1 miles repeats as opposed to Coach Killer's .82. I figured mentally this would be better for me. And I was right. I don't care what pace I was going, it was all about survival for me. I still haven't gotten used to the heat yet. I am a morning girl, I really don't like afternoon workouts.

August 31,2008 - Nike Human Race 10K

Time: 5:30pm
Duration: ~1:06
Location: Downtown Austin

Sport: Running
Workout: 10k Race
Distance: 6.2 miles
Weather: HOT and HUMID!!
People: only 12,000 other people, but Molly and Travis

I got to the race at 11:00am to work. I was thinking that I would have time to go home and change, but I didn't. Thank God I brought all of my race stuff. There just wasn't enough volunteers so I decided to go ahead and stay and help. I texted Molly to let her know where to find me.

Travis and Molly found me about 1 hour before the race and we just sat on the curb and hung out and talked. It was great to see them again. It has just been too long. We decided on a meeting place in case any of us got lost and headed over to the start. I lead the way and wanted to pick a place between the 9 min and 10 min mile marker. While we were walking we ended up running into alot of people we knew including my cousin, Vanessa and her husband. We finally find our place at the startline. I let Molly lead the pace and just followed. I talked her up the hills and made our way around the crowds. Everything was going great untill the 2nd water stop. I stopped to tie my shoe and lost her. Darn it!! I was soo bummed. I called out her name a waited around for a few minutes, then looked at my watch and said to myself "She isn't that slow." So I pushed on. I ran as fast I could thinking maybe I missed her and stood at the top of the hill on 15th St. Nope, still no Molly. Then I got to around the 4 mile marker and looked again, but no Molly. It also didn't help that that we were all wearing red shirts. But I must admit it was soo cool to see all the red running around. Anyway, I decided that by that time she should be long gone so I just ran my own race and picked up the pace around 8:15/miles. Then headed over to our meeting place and found her!! We were both pretty worried about Travis. He is one of those guys that just decided to run a 10K. I knew he would finish, but thought that it might not be a pretty finish. Just like Tim woke up one day and decided to run a 10-miler. Did great at the race but was sooo sore the next few days. The boy couldn't even walk. Anyway, we waited and waited. Then Molly and I came up with a plan that Molly (wait me, since I am a the runner in the group) would run get the stroller from the car, somehow get Travis in it, and then Molly would then push him back. She also drilled me about knowing about where all the hospitals were in Austin. After about 15 min or so, Travis showed up!! We were both so excited to see him alive and still breathing. We had such a great time. After walking around for alittle bit Molly and I decided we were hungry. We ate some good burgers at Players and had great time catching up. It was so nice to hang out with them again. Molly and I have already decided that we are doing this again next year and looking forward to some races in the future together. Here are some pictures from the race...

I ran with the my usually group (Ashlie, Andi, Leslie, Brian, Heidi, and Josh) to push myself some. I had a hard time locking into pace, but once I locked in, I was feeling great. Leslie, Brian and I decided to turn around at the 5 mile marker while the others contined on. We got back to Rogue and it wasn't even 7:30am yet!! I had a great run and felt really good when I got done. I tired to go home and wake my hubby up to go to breakfast but he wasn't having it. So I just decided to take a shower and get back in bed with him.

Overall pace 9:26 per mile

P. S. Leslie, hope you are having fun on your trip!!

The morning didn't start off too well. I was running late to drop off my car at the dealership and to top it off I went the wrong way and traffic was bad out there. I finally made it back to the office around 8:45am. Since I wasn't having the greatest day, I decided to close the office alittle early. I decided to go volunteer for the Nike Human Race since I thought my car was going to be ready and there was no need to drive home just to fight traffic again. Well, it ended up that my car wasn't ready so I just left around 5:00pm to head south again for the race.

I ended up changing in the car (I wonder how many people I flashed while I was changing) and walked over to the race start. We did a 1 mile warm-up and decided that I just wasn't feeling it today. I just didn't feel like running. No race report here. It wasn't my day and I am okay with that. Here are some pictures from the race (thanks Josh). I need to relax while I am running, especially my face. 2.5 miles - 8:16/pace.
